Worked with Metrius on Motorola Internet and Intranet projects. Wrote the web site Sponsorships and Events section of About Motorola. Topics included sports, community, educational, and philanthropic efforts, such as NASCAR, Team Motorola, Motorola Marathon, Junior Achievement of Chicago, and CALL to PROTECT. Sports copy reinforced Motorola's brand identity as The Name in motor sports racing communications. All copy promoted Motorola's philanthropic presence, as well as its leadership identity in wireless communications. Copy targeted sports fans and other North American audiences, who were potential consumers of Motorola cell phones, pagers, and two-way radios. For the Motorola Intranet, wrote online help text and online learning content about networking and wireless technology for the non-technical workforce (B2W).
During the separation of Agilent Technologies from Hewlett-Packard, adapted Hewlett-Packard publishing standards, policies, and guidelines for use with the new Agilent website. Also developed web-based training (WBT) guide to the agilent.com content server. B2W material targeted the worldwide workforce responsible for publishing and localizing Internet content in 40 countries and many languages.
Designed, developed, compiled, and updated online help for Sierra Sports' "Professional Bull Rider" (PBR and PBR2). Both versions of online help document all game controls, product features, and procedures for game play.
Designed and developed the first online help system for CanOPI NT, a high performance Windows NT OPI server for print queue management, file sharing, and print service. Delivered turnkey online help to programming staff for ongoing maintenance.
Went on location in Bordeaux, France to help company migrate from print to online documentation. Recommended and purchased software; then trained staff to use it. Designed procedures for localizing English online content into French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Edited marketing copy for the English mirror site.
Wrote extensive printed documentation for retail software products. Established online help as a corporate standard for software releases. On a telecommuting basis, provided technical writing and editing support services to corporate subsidiaries in Bordeaux, London, Paris, and Sunnyvale. Worked with Microsoft, Mindscape QA, and Mindscape Bordeaux to beta test, implement, and localize Windows 95 help development. Developed a process for converting WinHelp to Macintosh online help. For over six years, acted as managing editor, recruiting, training, editing work of in-house and contract writers. Won STC awards, including Best of Show, Best of Category, International Merit, and Achievement.
Developed online and print documentation for "MAX Systems," the back-office accounting software for the System One airline computer reservation system. Produced an amusing in-house newsletter. For an international conference of travel professionals, wrote marketing and training material. Quick reference, "Dial-Up Satellite Ticket Printing," won an "Award of Achievement" from the Society for Technical Communication (STC).
